VANI VILAS DAM (Mari Kanive)

Vani Vilasa Sagara is a dam located at a distance of 40 Km from Chitradurga in Hiriyur Taluk of Chitradurga district. Vani Vilasa Sagara is also called as Mari Kanive.
A Temple is situated at the bottom of the Vani Vilasa Sagara dam with a Beautiful Park. This Temple is dedicated to Kanive Maramma. Hence, Vani Vilasa Sagara is also called as Maari Kanive.

Vani Vilasa Sagara is an artificial lake built across River Vedavathi by Mysore Wodeyars. Vani Vilasa Sagara is recognized as Architectural Masterpiece.

The Vani Vilasa Sagara dam is definitely a beautiful example of architecture, an engineering wonder for that time, plus supplies water to a lot of surrounding cities, towns as well as villages, which are mostly dry lands of the Deccan area of the Central Karnataka.


The Vani Vilasa Sagara dam continues to be a tourist attraction for several years, although have been in fact neglected like a major tourist destination. In recent times, however, the enhancement work undertaken by forest department to reinstate the neighboring forest cover, as well as the 'Panchavati' gardens - a garden of medicinal plants using the ancient Indian cultural theme has increased the visitor numbers, which makes it a preferred weekend getaway location. The 'Panchavati' garden has medicinal plants lined up representing cultural themes - the 'Rashis', 'Sapta Swaras', 'Nava Grahas' and several more.

Every year during the month of November Kanive Maramma annual fair is celebrated with a great devotion. The huge numbers of devotees are gathered at Vani Vilasa Sagara to witness the annual fair.

Road: Vani Vilasa Sagara (Mari Kanive) is well connected by road network. Vani Vilasa Sagara (Mari Kanive) is about 160 km from Bangalore on the NH-4 highway and 40 km from Chitradurga.

SUPA DAM

Supa Dam is a dam that is located in town of Dandeli  in Joida Taluk. it was built across the River Kali or Kalinadi by Karnataka Power Corporation Limited. This dam has a power house at the foot of this dam with two electric generators. They are of 50 megawatts each. In 1985, the power house was commissioned.

The dams has live storage capacity of 145 (Thousand Million Cubic Feet) and a catchment area of 1,057 Sq.Kms.

ALMATTI DAM








The Almatti Dam is in a Bijapur, a small town Northern Karnataka,  and is built across the Krishna river. The construction was done in 2005, so it is a relatively new dam. It is the main reservoir of the Upper Krishna Irrigation Project and it uses Kaplan Turbines.



Water is released into the Narayanpur reservoir once it uses it for power generation and serves the irrigation requirements.  The height was increased by 10 meters in this dam after the Supreme Court ordered to do so.

Almatti Dam A picnic Spot

There are about seven terrace gardens that have been built as a picnic spot in Almatti dam area. Musical fountains, stagnant fountains, boating facilities etc. have been set up here for people who wish to visit it. This makes it a great tourist attraction. There is a garden named ‘Rock Hill’ situated on one of side of this Dam. It also has an artificial forest with ceramic wild animals.
